Children and Young People Policy - Holistic Soul Space

At Holistic Soul Space, I recognise that children and young people require particular care, respect and appropriate boundaries when accessing complementary therapies. By booking a session for a child or young person, you are agreeing to the terms set out below together with the Holistic Soul Space Terms and Conditions.

I currently offer Reiki and Crystal Energy sessions to children and young people under the age of 18. These sessions are offered as complementary wellbeing practices and are not intended to diagnose, treat or cure medical or psychological conditions.
QHHT sessions are strictly for clients aged 18 and over.

Consent and Choice

A young person must freely choose to participate in their session.
I will explain the session in clear, age appropriate language before it begins and give the young person the opportunity to ask questions and decide whether they wish to proceed.
A parent, guardian or carer cannot require a young person to participate against their wishes.
The young person may withdraw their consent or ask for the session to stop at any time, without having to provide a reason.
If I have any concern that the young person does not understand the nature of the session or is participating because they feel pressured or obliged to do so, I will not proceed.

Parental or Guardian Involvement

For clients under 18, I require the involvement of a parent, guardian or appropriate responsible adult in the booking process.
For younger children, I may ask that a parent or responsible adult remains present during the session.
The exact arrangements will depend upon the age, maturity and circumstances of the young person and the nature of the session.

Reiki and Crystal Energy sessions

Sessions are gentle, non invasive complementary practices.
Reiki involves the practitioner working with energy through gentle hand positions or, where appropriate, without physical contact.
Crystal Energy sessions may involve crystals being placed around the client or used as part of an energy based session. No crystal will be placed on a young person without their agreement.
No young person will be required to remain still, close their eyes, lie down or engage in any particular practice if they do not wish to do so.

Physical Contact

Any physical contact will be kept to an appropriate minimum and will only take place with the young person’s agreement.
The young person may ask for physical contact to stop at any time.
No intimate areas of the body will ever be touched.
Where appropriate, Reiki may be provided without physical contact.

Confidentiality

I respect the privacy of young people and will treat information shared during a session sensitively.
However, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed where there is a concern that the young person or another person may be at risk of harm.
Where a safeguarding concern arises, information may need to be shared with a parent, guardian, appropriate professional or relevant safeguarding authority where necessary to protect the young person or another person.
Scottish child protection guidance recognises that relevant information may be shared without consent where necessary to protect a child from significant harm.
Where appropriate and safe to do so, I will explain to the young person what information needs to be shared and why.

Medical Conditions and Medication

Reiki and Crystal Energy sessions do not replace medical diagnosis, treatment or professional healthcare.
Parents or guardians should inform me of any relevant medical conditions, allergies, medication or other circumstances that may affect the young person’s participation.
Where I believe that a young person’s needs require medical or psychological assessment or treatment, I may recommend that they seek appropriate professional support.
I will not advise a young person to stop, alter or replace prescribed medical treatment or medication.

Safeguarding

The safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a priority.
If a young person discloses information suggesting that they or another person may be at risk of harm, I will take the concern seriously and follow appropriate safeguarding procedures.
I will record relevant safeguarding information accurately and only share information where necessary and lawful.

Photography, recording and social media

I will not photograph, video or record a young person during a session without appropriate consent.
A young person’s image, testimonial or personal information will not be used for marketing purposes without specific permission.

Professional boundaries

Sessions will remain within the scope of Reiki and Crystal Energy support.
I will not diagnose medical or psychological conditions, provide medical treatment or make claims that Reiki or Crystal Energy can cure illness.
Young people will not be offered QHHT or hypnosis sessions.

Right to Refuse or Stop a Session

The young person’s comfort and willingness to participate remain important throughout the session.
If they become uncomfortable, distressed, frightened or simply decide that they no longer wish to continue, the session will stop.
There is no obligation to complete a session once it has begun.

Parent or Guardian Acknowledgement

By booking a session for a young person, the responsible adult confirms that they understand the nature of the service and agree to the young person being offered the session.
The young person’s own willingness to participate remains essential and will be respected throughout.
