At Holistic Soul Space, I offer gentle Reiki energy sessions for animals as a complementary wellbeing practice. The intention of an animal Reiki session is to provide a calm, supportive environment in which an animal may relax and receive gentle energy work. Animal Reiki is not veterinary medicine and is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure illness, injury, disease or behavioural conditions.
By booking a Reiki session for an animal, you are agreeing to the terms set out below together with the Holistic Soul Space Terms and Conditions.
Veterinary Care
- Animal Reiki does not replace veterinary care.
- If an animal is unwell, injured, in pain or showing unexplained changes in behaviour, the owner should seek advice from a qualified veterinary surgeon.
- I will never advise an owner to delay, discontinue or replace veterinary assessment, treatment or medication with Reiki.
- Where I have concerns about an animal’s health or welfare, I may recommend that the owner contacts their veterinary surgeon before or after a session.
- The RCVS states that diagnosis and medical treatment of animals fall within veterinary surgery and that complementary therapy must not cross into activities that constitute veterinary surgery.
Owner Consent
- The animal’s owner, or a person with appropriate authority to act on the owner’s behalf, must provide consent before an animal Reiki session takes place.
- The owner is responsible for providing accurate information about the animal, including any known health conditions, medication, behavioural concerns and relevant veterinary care.
The Animal’s Choice
- Animals communicate through their behaviour and body language.
- An animal will never be forced to participate in a Reiki session.
- If an animal moves away, becomes distressed, shows signs of fear or otherwise communicates that it does not wish to continue, the session will be paused or stopped.
- The animal’s welfare takes priority over completing a session.
Gentle and Non Invasive Practice
- Animal Reiki is offered as gentle energy work.
- I will not perform veterinary procedures, diagnose conditions, administer medication or physically manipulate an animal as part of an animal Reiki session.
- I will not restrain an animal in order to make it participate.
- Where appropriate, Reiki may be offered without touching the animal.
Animal welfare
- The welfare of the animal will always take priority.
- Scottish animal welfare legislation places duties on those responsible for animals to ensure that their welfare needs are met and protects animals from unnecessary suffering, including mental suffering and distress.
- I will therefore take reasonable steps to ensure that the environment and session are appropriate for the animal.
Medical Information
- The owner should inform me about:
- existing medical conditions
- recent illness or injury
- medication
- veterinary treatment
- recent surgery
- pregnancy where relevant
- behavioural concerns
- known fears or triggers
- any other information that may affect the animal’s wellbeing.
- Providing this information does not mean that Reiki is being used to treat the condition.
Emergencies
Reiki is not an emergency veterinary service.
- If an animal appears to require urgent veterinary attention, the Reiki session will not be used as a substitute for veterinary care and the owner will be advised to seek appropriate veterinary assistance.
Scope of Service
- My animal service is limited to Reiki energy work for complementary wellbeing and relaxation.
- I do not diagnose animals or claim to treat or cure veterinary conditions.
- I do not prescribe or recommend veterinary medicines, supplements or changes to veterinary treatment.
Owner Responsibility
- The owner remains responsible for the animal’s ongoing veterinary care and welfare.
- By booking an animal Reiki session, the owner confirms that they understand the nature and limitations of the service.
